Who Is Harry Hunch?

As great as it feels to win a bet, it feels a billion times worse to lose a bet. The feeling of joy and excitement and the rush of a win comes crashing down instantaneously to the point where you feel like you’re about to vomit up all of your organs. And on top of that you feel poor. Unfortunately, it’s a feeling I’ve known all too well.

I once went on a 16 week winning streak only to lose the entire sum in one night. On one game. But that’s a tale for another time. If you’re gonna live by the sword you’re gonna die by the sword, right?

Hello, name is Harry Hunch, prepare to gamble.

Smart people gamble with less than 5% of their disposable income. “Don’t bet your mortgage,” they say. “You shouldn’t expect to win” they say. Emotionally rational people know when to walk away. Calculated people who win in the long run (P.S no one wins in the long run) apparently know when to cut their losses.

I am not any of these people. No, if I’m doing something I’m diving in head first.

At the end of the day gambling is supposed to be fun. Anyone can pick a heavy favorite and bet them money line. Anyone can pick a home dog getting a ton of points. Anyone can bet the Patriots to win the Super Bowl or Aaron Rodgers to win MVP. That said, and don’t quote me on this, a heavy favorite has never won any prop bet.

They call me Harry Hunch for a reason. I bet with my gut. Sure I evaluate all the trends, and look at all the stats. But at the end of the day if I see a random sports account on Twitter post something right before the game starts I’m hammering whatever they tell me to.

A few things to know about me in no particular order:

• I can be convinced into betting just about anything.
• My favorite sports are NFL, NCAAB, and PGA.
• I love a good parlay and think it’s almost impossible to lose a teaser.
• And most importantly, no one spots a trap better than me.

I learned a long time ago Vegas always win. They’re so good they know what you’re going to do before you do it. So they like to lay traps. When you see the Patriots have a home game and everyone is healthy but they’re only -1.5 Vegas knows you want to hammer that spread with every bone in your body. And I wouldn’t blame you if you did. But I’ve been to Trap City™ too many times to let you go down that road.
